Cruise Day Six, Ketchikan Alaska, August 20, 2005

The cruise director told us a story about a passenger that disembarked in Ketchikan. Upon observing the rain, he asked a small boy walking by, "Son, has it been raining long?" The boy replied, "Gee mister, I don't know...I'm only five!"

They measure the rain in feet here, not inches. I dare say that we contributed to the yearly rainfall total during our visit. It rained and rained and rained.

Phyllis and Mike had booked a Harley ride for today. In the trip description it indicated that "rain gear is provided". Rain gear indeed. It rained hard during the whole ride. The provided raingear did a good job of keeping everyting dry except their feet. In retrospect they said they wished they had brought different footwear. Other than the wet feet though, they said the throughly enjoyed the Harley ride. The couple that run the outfit are very nice and good at what they do.

Chris and I went to the visitors bureau office and got a map for a self guided walking tour. We followed it and saw several interesting sites around town. Along the way we hooked up with Norman and Chloe. Not long after that, we abandoned our effort and headed to drier ground on the ship.

I laid down for an hour after lunch, while Chris and Chloe went out to the shops again. Here on the ship they give you several free coupons for various jewelry related items. Chris and Chloe seemed committed to taking advantage of each offer, so they had to go track down those shops. I struck out one more time to go access the Internet and purchase the obligatory refrigerator magnet.

Ketchikan night was the final formal night. We got all dolled up and met at 7pm in the atrium near our dining room. We took a multitude of pictures, some of which you'll see here.
