Looking for a Last Minute Spring Break Trip?

As I write this, it is early February.  Spring Break in Texas is next month.  Every day we are getting calls for people eager to book trips during Spring Break. We have been booking Spring Break trips for months now.  The people who are calling now are shocked at the high prices and lack of availability.

That is how it goes when you want to travel during a high demand period.

A popular idea we hear alot is “I’ll wait and see if prices go down”.  Let me go ahead and predict the future.  If you’re wanting to travel during a time when all of the planes and hotels could be filled eight times over, the price isn’t going down.  It just isn’t happening.  The chances are very, very high that the price you are quoted when you first ask is as good as it’s going to get.

Yes, I know it happened to the friend of a friend year before last.  Chances are it isn’t happening for you.

So, if you’re committed to travel during a high demand period of time (Spring Break, Christmas, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, during local festivals) the key to success is early booking.

Next up, Memorial Day weekend.  Anyone?

Having priced the vacations firsthand, I have only seen increases in pricing and less and less availability. It has been frustrating to not be able to get people’s dream vacations booked for a reasonable rate. However, I have found a couple of destinations with better pricing, but not as good as if they were to have been booked months in advance.

I’ve seen people start booking spring break as early as June. It’s like walking into a store and seeing what you want for a great price. Those are always the first things to sell. Same thing with flights. The best times (non-stops) and lowest rates are always the first to go. By the time you get closer to departure, you’re left with the stuff that no one else wanted. My heart stops when I get calls for spring break trips this close in. The prices are ridiculous for flights that are horrible! I know sometimes space opens up in the schedule that no one predicted so people just want a last minute get away – but you WILL pay a premium to travel at a moment’s notice.

We tend to work a lot and don’t even think about travelling until summer gets close… But that’s when prices soar…
Spring is a good time for last minute trips, indeed…
It’s also important to take account of the destinations’s weather patterns, rainy season, cold and hot season… Whenever there are less tourists, there are more deals!
