Standard Equipment For a Hotel

What equipment do you need in a hotel room?

What equipment do you need in a hotel room?

What are your “must haves” in a hotel or resort room?

I recently stayed at a resort that had a few items missing that I consider to be standard equipment.  It was missing, for instance, a luggage stand.  I don’t think I’ve ever been in a hotel room where they didn’t have a luggage stand stashed in the closet.

That got me to thinking, what should be considered standard equipment in a hotel room?  Here’s my list:

Hair Dryer
Luggage Stand
Coffee Maker (even though I never use it)
Shampoo / Lotion / Soap / Shower Cap

Here’s the list of equipment that gives a hotel extra points in my book:

Mat by the bed where I can brush sand off my feet before putting them in bed.
Extra pillows
Really yummy toiletries
Really big towels
Slippers
Bathrobes

What about you?  What’s important to you to find in your hotel or resort room?

I remember staying in a hotel once where they didn’t supply soap/body wash. I ended up using the shampoo as body wash. It worked, but it is so nice when all the standard bath amenities are provided.

I also REALLY like having oversized bath towels, some type of fan (whether ceiling, box, or a central unit), and good toilet paper :D

I took a trip not that long ago where I didn’t notice a hair dryer in our room. When we left for dinner I asked my friend if she had seen one, she hadn’t either. We both couldn’t believe that a hotel wouldn’t have one. We had become so accustomed to having the “necessities” provided for us by the hotel / resort that neither of us had packed a dryer. I usually like to pack light, especially if it’s just a weekend getaway. Now if I’m going somewhere that I’ve never been before I’m sure to bring what I consider to my must haves, even if it does make my suitcase a little heavier. Oh, and when we got back from dinner we saw the blow dryer hanging right on the wall. I’m not sure how we missed it, but it we sure were glad to see it :)

Internet is something that is important to me. I stayed in the upgraded, adults only section of a resort in Riviera Maya that included wireless in the rooms. I know that’s above standard, but it’s a nice to have. When it comes to little things – an ice bucket is essential for me along with a liner to put in it and of course I like being in close proximity to a machine. I also like to have a balcony because I enjoy going outside. Hangers are also nice and it’s a bonus when they aren’t the kind that are attached to the rail.

I like having slippers! Sometimes the hotel floor grosses me out, and I like my feet to stay clean. I also like having free bottled water in my room. Drinking out of a sink is just something you shouldn’t have to do when you’re already paying for the stay. To top it all off, I like to have a list of tv channels ;)
