Spectacular Sunsets and Turquoise Seas in Stunning Cabo

Terrah Van Meter: Cabo

I’ve been wanting to do a luxury Cabo familiarization trip for over a decade now, and I finally bit the bullet and applied for one. I love Cabo. You get these beautiful pink and purple sunrises every morning and these iconic sunsets at night because it’s right there on a small peninsula. We went to Cabo during the hottest months, August and September, and I’d discourage clients from traveling at that time unless they plan on spending their whole vacation in the pool. The best time to visit is between December and March, when you can see whales. You can even see whales from some of the resorts. It’s incredible.

Six Days in Cabo

Day One

I spent the first two nights at Garza Blanca Resort & Spa, which is less than half an hour from the Los Cabos International Airport. The ID Insider Experiences team met me at the airport and whisked me away right to the resort. The Garza Blanca Resort & Spa is both family- and adult-friendly with accommodations that range from junior suites to four-bedroom suites. Their rooms feature balcony hammocks and heated smart toilets. The suites are huge, with all-day and night room service; a 24/7 gym and medical clinic; and other nice amenities like pickleball and tennis courts and an adult-only rooftop pool that has nightly live music.

Day Two

I was really excited about day two because we got to head out on the water with the PX Pelican Cabo, my favorite boat company in this part of Mexico. Some people in the industry call me the ‘boat queen’ because I book plenty of private yachts and boats for my clients, and Pelican is a cut above the rest. Their customer service is top-notch, their website is very intuitive and user-friendly, and their boats are top-of-the-line. They’re actual yachts with waitstaff, and they pick you up and drop you off at your resort in luxurious brand-new Mercedes vans. It’s a full-on luxury experience.

Afterward, it was back to the Garza Blanca Resort & Spa for lunch and a leisurely afternoon, then off to the Park Hyatt Los Cabos. This property opened less than a year ago, in December 2024, and is a sleek, modern option that’s a bit quieter than other places in Cabo.

Day Three

The next morning we hit the ground running with a full day of site inspections, and the first was one of my top favorite resorts of the trip: Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos. I fell in love with it and cannot wait to go back with my husband. It had the most fun vibe, including a sports bar that is open until 2 a.m. My husband and I are huge Dallas Cowboys fans, and it’s tough to find places where we can see the games. Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos had all of that, plus a five-star luxury level and an outstanding, included, and unlimited hydrotherapy circuit in the spa.

I also had the best meal of the trip at the One&Only Palmilla, an iconic, fabulous resort that totally lives up to the hype. There’s quite a lot of character with intricate details and color, and it was definitely my cup of tea. It’s on a golf course, too. The Palmilla Social Club hosted us for lunch, and I had a quinoa and lobster salad with caviar and quinoa, and I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. Then, we spent the night at Montage Los Cabos, which reminded me that Cabo is a playground for millionaires and billionaires. It’s an ultra-luxury property with vast, spacious layouts, dedicated hosts, and top-tier spa massages.

Day Four

Montage Los Cabos offers sunrise kayaking. I did not partake in that, but some people from our group did, and they completely loved it. I’m more of a night person than a morning person, so I did get to take advantage of the free time and beach beds on Santa Maria Beach, which were really lovely. I expected just one little beach bed for our whole group, but no, it was an entire lounge area with a giant cooler and our own private pool area. Such a beautiful setup. Santa Maria Beach is gorgeous, but it’s rocky and can have strong currents, so bring your water shoes and watch out for the tides.

In addition to our heavenly relaxation on the beach, the Montage Los Cabos set us up with a 60-minute massage, and it was easily one of the top five massages I’ve had in my life. Then, that evening, we had dinner at the spectacular Waldorf Astoria Resort at Pedregal. This resort stands apart from anything else in Cabo for a few reasons; it’s in downtown Cabo San Lucas, so you have the famous arch, Lover’s Beach, and all the nightlife and the marina right there at your fingertips. It’s on the corner of a mountain, so you go down this tunnel to get to the resort with a private, secluded, special beach. We ate at el Farallon, a dramatic open-air cliffside restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Day Five

The following day we left Montage Los Cabos and set off on more site visits from the Auberge Collection: Chileno Bay Resort & Residences and Esperanza. I was really excited to see the first one because it’s right on Chileno Bay, which is truly one of the nicest swimmable beaches in Cabo. The waters are very calm, and you can feel confident bringing your kids. Chileno Bay Resort & Residences is stunningly landscaped with a smart layout and many flowers everywhere. You can also take shuttles between this resort and the Esperanza. It’s the best of all worlds.

Then we went to Las Ventanas al Paraíso, one of my top five resorts in Cabo. It’s just so pretty, with an intentional design and cute water features like a little waterfall and lazy river. It’s full of statues and unique art in every room. Then, we checked into the Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos, which is just the crème de la crème as far as all-inclusive resorts go. It’s the adult-only section of the Grand Velas experiences. There are golf carts running between the boutique accommodations and the resort to go check out the Michelin-star restaurant or have karaoke night.

Day Six

The sixth day we spent at the Grand Velas Boutique Hotel, and I enjoyed marvellous sunset views from my private suite balcony with a jacuzzi and sun loungers on it too. There are bougainvillea plants everywhere, which is a signature Velas feature that they have in all of their resorts. It also happens to be my favorite flower. That night we had dinner at Frida, an after-dinner drink at Koi Bar, and closed out the trip with karaoke at Sky Bar. It was so fun and multi-generational. I heard Britney, Janet Jackson, and Lady Gaga. It was a super cool vibe.

Cabo is a great destination for families and couples, and it’s an easy flight for most people in the United States. You don’t need a visa to visit. If you’ve done the Cancun thing and are looking for something different, try Cabo.
